Labour had the chance to be honest about their tax plans during the election. Sadly, they were not. Most of the pensioners hurt by this are not rich. For some it will mean hardship - and that's bad for all of us.
Between 2010 and 2023, the Conservatives lifted over 200,000 pensioners out of absolute poverty. Our cost of living support following the invasion of Ukraine also prevented 400,000 pensioners from falling into absolute poverty.
Labour's winter fuel raid wasn’t forced on them by a “fiscal black hole”. The scrapping of the Winter Fuel Payment comes despite Labour saying they had ‘no plans to make changes’ to pensioner benefits. It was untrue, and an example of why people get fed up with politics and politicians.
